Head of Experiential Education, Stamford American International School

This session will delve into a simple but innovative approach to student risk profiling, leveraging insights from multiple stakeholders during the planning stages of major trips. By utilizing a few simple formulas on sheets, Shane’s method allows various departments to contribute their perspectives on a student’s readiness to travel. This holistic view encompasses input from nursing, student support, EAL, pastoral and behavioural, counselling, and safeguarding teams.

This systematic approach ensures that trip staff are well-prepared with comprehensive and relevant information, enhancing both safety and preparedness. The process involves stakeholder and system input that dictate the required actions, ranging from ‘safe’ to ‘risk assessment and committee approval.’

Participants will be introduced to this model and its practical applications, followed by a session for questions and queries. Additionally, the presentation will provide an opportunity for attendees to share their innovative ideas and solutions based on their experiences, fostering a collaborative environment for improving student risk profiling and trip planning.
