Dr. Clare Dallat

Dr. Clare Dallat

Director, Risk Resolve

This workshop explores the critical role of effectively communicating the risks of outdoor education programs to parents, ensuring they can provide truly informed consent for their child’s participation. Attendees will examine the current social and cultural context influencing perceptions of outdoor education, including the psychological and social factors that shape attitudes toward risk. The session will highlight how and why risks are perceived in certain ways, offering insights into balancing transparency about risks with emphasising the benefits of outdoor experiences. Through practical examples and strategies, attendees will gain tools to refine their own program’s risk communication approaches aimed at increasing trust and strengthening parental confidence in outdoor education programs.
