Shaping Outdoor Experiences to Make Them Meaningful

Dave Arthurs
Outdoor adventurous experiences are often a very significant and memorable part of a child’s school year. Shaping the nature of those experiences to maximize the impact on every child can allow us to contribute to the development of an attitude to all learning and, consequently, the learning culture in schools.
Through a simple process of pre-trip presentation, focused actions during a trip, and reflection, we can make experiential education positive and meaningful for all.
About Dave
I worked for many years in International Schools, teaching literature and, later, coordinating adventurous activities. I have long been obsessed with learning and how to maximize the potential of every student to have a positive relationship with learning. When I left formal employment to start DdD Experiences, my goal was to create meaningful opportunities for kids to learn about the world and also to learn about themselves. I believe that a well-structured learning experience can have positive impacts on children long after the experience has ended.
