Jake Hammond

Head of Outdoor Education, Australian International School

This session explores how AIS transformed its unique CCA—Schools4Schools—into a fully embedded, whole-school Service Learning curriculum. Participants will gain practical strategies for aligning existing structures, empowering staff and students, and navigating a clear, data-driven change-management process. The model also demonstrates how two major milestones—PYP Exhibition (PYPX) and CAS—were meaningfully linked to create a seamless Service Learning journey from early years to graduation.

About Jake

With a career spanning the UK, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and now Southeast Asia, Jake has held leadership roles as Head of PE, Head of CCA, and Head of Outdoor Education. He has also led The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award for eight years, including establishing the first Independent Award Centre in Georgia—an initiative that significantly expanded youth access to experiential learning in the region. This breadth of international experience has equipped him with a deep, culturally informed understanding of how schools and communities operate, shaping his holistic and globally minded approach to student development.

At AIS, Jake leads the whole-school Outdoor Education program from Prep to Year 12, reaching more than 2,000 students through experiences delivered across multiple continents, countries, and cities. These programs are intentionally designed to balance process and outcome-focused learning, fostering character, agency, and global awareness. Most recently, he has spearheaded the development of an embedded Service Learning curriculum that connects all year levels to shared, purposeful action aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals—strengthening AIS’s vision for student impact beyond the classroom.
