Derik is a passionate outdoorsman whose journey began at the age of 7 with mountain biking and quickly expanded into hiking, kayaking, diving, and competitive rock climbing. By 13, he was already competing in climbing competitions and went on to represent Malaysia at the IFSC Asia Youth World Championships in 2016.

Over the past five years, Derik has shifted his focus toward water-based activities, safety training, and expedition leadership. With a strong foundation in kayaking, rafting, and aquatic rescue, he has gained extensive experience leading programs that prioritize both adventure and safety. He actively trains local communities in river awareness and flood preparedness, equipping them with survival skills to stay safe in moving water environments. His role as an instructor and expedition leader has allowed him to integrate technical expertise with practical, community-driven safety initiatives.

Derik’s career has also included management and organizational roles such as Assistant Race Director of the Adventure Race World Series (ARWS) 2019 in Malaysia, giving him valuable insight into operations, logistics, and risk management in large-scale outdoor events.

Today, as co-founder of Morph Outdoors, Derik continues to design and lead meaningful programs that blend adventure, education, and safety. He is deeply committed to promoting outdoor education as a tool to nurture resilience, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.

Adrian Chin

Adrian brings to Morph Outdoors over 25 years of technical and practical knowledge from competing in and leading adventure sports around the globe. Widely recognized as a pioneer of Malaysia’s rock-climbing fraternity, he was among the first Malaysians to compete internationally, placing 5th in the regional Rock On competition. Certified as a climbing instructor by the Fédération Française de la Montagne et de l’Escalade (FFME) and accredited as a National Route Setter by Comité International de Compétition d’Escalade (CICE), Adrian has helped shape the development of rock climbing in Malaysia. His career also includes directing and facilitating major adventure races such as the Marlboro Adventure Team, Mild Seven Outdoor Quests, and serving as Race Director for the Adventure Racing World Series (Malaysia edition).

Over the past five years with Morph Outdoors, Adrian has focused on youth development through water-based programs, designing and leading experiences that build resilience, teamwork, and leadership. His commitment to safety and technical excellence has also seen him take on senior safety roles at large-scale events. Notably, he served as Chief Safety Officer for open-water swimming events, including the Triathlon World Cup – Malaysia, where he coordinated rescue teams, oversaw risk management, and ensured international safety standards were met.

Adrian’s wealth of experience makes him a trusted mentor and leader in both adventure and education. He is passionate about helping individuals and groups unlock their potential through the outdoors, using experiential learning as a platform to instill skills that transfer far beyond the field.

Ryan Chew

Ryan Chew

Head of Operations of Morph Outdoors

Ryan’s journey into the outdoors began at a young age, sparked by his fascination with water and adventure sports. What started with diving, rock climbing, and cycling soon developed into a career rooted in water safety and youth development. After completing his SPM, Ryan became a PADI-certified Dive Master in the Perhentian Islands, where he began leading dive trips and honing his leadership and rescue skills in aquatic environments. Since then, he has accumulated extensive hands-on experience across multiple water disciplines, from diving and kayaking to white-water environments and safety management.

Since 2019, Ryan has worked full-time in the outdoor industry, specializing in water-based programs and safety instruction. He has played a key role in youth development residential programs across Malaysia, building expertise in teaching survival, camping, and river awareness skills. His professional background also includes safety leadership roles such as serving as head judge for the SEAL Challenge backwoodsman competition (2019), as well as supporting community programs on river safety and flood preparedness.

Combining his culinary arts background from Sunway University with his love for the outdoors, Ryan is also known for crafting memorable wilderness meals during expeditions — an approach that blends creativity, resilience, and practical skills.

Today, Ryan leverages his wide-ranging qualifications and water-based expertise to coach and train others in safety, risk management, and expedition readiness. His experience in boat handling, white-water environments, and aquatic safety systems makes him a highly credible instructor for water safety and boat operations courses.
