Environmental Impact of Trips Week Travel – How We Are Trying to Change For The Better

David Morris
This session will share our planning, progress, initial successes, and encountered challenges in a new approach to raising awareness of the carbon footprint we are creating with our Trips Week. Our project aims to offer students the opportunity to lead their own learning and research to calculate how much carbon will be released as a result of their respective journeys, convert this into a monetary cost and consider what they might be able to do to offset this, raise awareness and drive positive change in our community. The format of the session would be similar to a JAWS, and the goal would be to collaborate and share solutions to problems with those trialling similar projects, and inspire and support others to consider a similar approach in their own schools.
About David
I’ve been working at the Alice Smith School as a Biology teacher for over 12 years, with over 7 years experience in the role of Head of Enrichment. My leadership role encompasses whole-school strategic oversight of our extracurricular provision, as well as a significant breadth of responsibility at the Secondary Campus. In addition to the extracurricular program, I coordinate and line-manage the following areas:

- House System
- Community and Sustainability
- Duke of Edinburgh, MUN and UNHCR
I am currently leveraging my whole-school connections and collaborations to drive positive policy and procedural change in our risk management and approach to environmental sustainability and community action.
